Methanol is produced by reforming natural gas. Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) production from butane involves converting butane to isobutylene and reacting with methanol. This efficient process utilizes butane from natural gas liquids and refinery streams. Major producers in the U.S., Europe, and Asia supply MTBE through global chemical markets, distributing it via tankers, pipelines, or trucks. As a gasoline additive, MTBE enhances octane ratings, reduces engine knocking, and significantly lowers emissions of harmful combustion byproducts like carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons

Since the population of Qatar is relatively small compared to other countries in the GCC most of the products produced by QAFAC are sold to customers in Asia. QatarEnergy Marketing has access to shipping
